Taittinger Champagne origins date back to 1734 with the founding of the original house by Jacques Fourneaux. Taittinger as we know it today was began in 1934 when Pierre Taittinger bought the property and its vineyards from Fourneaux. The story of how Pierre bought the house is a romantic one that started when as a young cavalry officer in the 1st World War he spent much time in the Champagne area where he was stationed near Epernay. He fell in love with region and in particular the vineyards of Jacques Fourneaux property.

Taittinger is family owned still and the Taittinger headquarters are in Reims, situated above magnificent 4th Century Roman cellars and run by Claude Taittinger – Pierre’s son. The flagship wines of the house are the Comtes de Champagne (100% Chardonnay) and Comtes de Champagne Rosé (100% Pinot Noir) are frequently used at French State dinners
