Winemaker Dinner with Fiona Turner of Tinpot Hut, Marlborough, New Zealand

Friday 8th of September

7pm start
£89pp for 7 courses and 7 wines

Tinpot Hut's owner and winemaker Fiona Turner began developing her Blind River "Home Block" vineyard in Marlborough's Awatere Valley with husband Hamish in 2005. Now fully mature, the Home Block's Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Riesling are the foundation of Tinpot Hut wines today. Select parcels of Blind River Grüner Veltliner and Hawkes Bay Syrah add further varietal diversity to the range.

Recent vintages of all of Fiona’s wines have swept the board at many international wine shows and collected an impressive haul of Gold Medals.   We love her winemaking in that it expresses the varietal grape as well as the region.

We are thrilled that Fiona is coming to Park House to guide us through her majestic stable of wines.

A 7 course tasting menu with 7 matched wines awaits those who attend!

Wines for the dinner include :
Tinpot Hut Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Tinpot Hut Marlborough Pinot Gris

Tinpot ‘McKee Vineyard’ Grüner Veltliner

Tinpot ‘Turner Vineyard’ Riesling

Tinpot Hut Marlborough Pinot Noir

Tinpot Hut Hawkes Bay Syrah

Tinpot Hut Marlborough Late Harvest Riesling

Tinpot Hut History and Wine Profiles

The Tinpot Hut story began in 2003 when winemaker Fiona Turner and her husband Hamish established their own 50 acre vineyard in Marlborough’s emerging sub-region of Blind River. Naming her range of wines after a historic Marlborough mustering hut, the ‘Tinpot Hut’ links the area’s sheep farming past with its current state as one of the world’s most dynamic wine regions.

Her flagship Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of fruit from Fiona’s own Home Block vineyard and parcels from the Blind River, Dashwood and Lower Wairau. It has mineral, crushed herb and lovely tropical flavours.   In 2012 Tinpot Hut produced its first single vineyard wines: the ‘Turner Vineyard’ Riesling made solely from Fiona’s home block vineyard – a light bodied wine displaying flavours of lime and grapefruit with a distinct mineral finish so reflective of the Blind River sub region; and the ‘McKee Vineyard’ Gruner Veltliner also a pure Blind River wine with flavours of white peach and subtle peppery spice.

The Pinot Noir has intense aromas of black cherry, supported by hints of plum and redcurrant. Structurally the tannins are soft and silky.  Well balanced acidity ensures good length and weight.  The fruit for the Syrah is sourced from some of the oldest Syrah vines in New Zealand, planted on an ancient river terrace in the Dartmoor sub-region of Hawkes Bay, as well as from the unique gravel soil of the Gimblett Gravels area, which gives power and structure to the wine. Made in the style of northern Rhône, it is a complex wine showing plum, pepper and cinnamon characteristics.
